Scammers pretend to be a family member, friend, or employee in an urgent situation — asking you to wire money or buy gift cards. Always verify by calling the person directly before sending any money. No real emergency requires gift cards.

📞 Fake IRS or Government Calls

The IRS never calls you to demand immediate payment, threaten arrest, or ask for gift cards. Real IRS notices always arrive by mail first. If you get a suspicious call, hang up and call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040.

A legitimate accountant does not need your online banking password, and should never ask you to sign blank checks. Your accountant's job is to review records — not to move your money. If yours is asking for this access, contact your bank immediately.
